MAGNUS ALPHA, Latin for great dominance was conceptualized to
celebrate the identity and luxury of being a "Product Of An Immigrant".
NYC in the late 80’s early 90’s was the epicenter of counterfeit clothing distributed at retail. Brands from low end to high end tiers were being knocked off and sold on every other street in all 5 boroughs. The hunt to shop for something fresh and popular was often an experience of deception. Putting yourself esteem at risk of being called out for wearing something fake in public was a seasonal struggle.
The internet wasn’t available for the masses yet. The resources to educate oneself about the inner workings and logistics of the fashion industry was far from within reach. And as a curious young individual of immigrant parents the curiosity was a stifling process towards progress.
Despite continuously hitting dead ends with every attempt, I made a promise to myself that the day I’d find the resources I would produce my own designs vs knocking off an established brand to turn a profit.
One of my early inspirations was Oscar De La Renta a Dominican born designer who got his start designing for Balenciaga in Spain followed by Lanvin in Paris. His journey and accomplishments validated my goals to become a designer.
In my journey I realized that many of these coveted products were designed and produced by people like me, immigrants or children of immigrants. In 2015 I began to explore the process of becoming an independent designer, and established MAGNUS ALPHA in 2016 with my partners.
